I planned Day 1 to start after a visit to my in laws house. My husband is along for the journey with me and I wanted to make it easy for him. I thought it would be setting him up for failure if we started and then went to visit his parents to watch football. His mom puts out a spread that can feed an army.
So yesterday, we went to watch football. I ate a cheeseburger, a cheesy brat, chips, beans, cheese and crackers. All of this was washed down with TWO Dr. Peppers. Full cookout mode. My husband ate less than normal, and he didn’t have any soda. I think he was trying to ease himself into this. He even made a comment to me about how I was really trying to make it hard on myself.
We both slept terribly last night. He had to wake up at six a.m. to get ready for work and I always get up with him. He gets ready for work, and I take care of the dog. Part of our morning routine is me dishing out our gummy vitamins and giving the dog his Zyrtec. Today only the dog got his. After sending my husband out the door, I usually mix up some pre workout. Somehow I got lucky and had a very light work day, so I opted to go back to bed. No caffeine in my body called for a little extra sleep.
Ok, ok…I slept until almost 10. I woke up and knew I needed to start drinking water. I could feel the slight caffeine headache threatening to come crashing in.
I drank water, got my workout in, walked the dog, and ate breakfast. I learned from my past experience to keep it simple. I had a couple chicken sausages, some cucumber slices and a mandarin. So far so good.
The day went on. I got more work done and before I knew it, it was time to eat lunch before leaving for work. I wasn’t super hungry, but I knew I had to eat or face having a hunger headache on top of the brewing caffeine headache. So I made a simple tuna salad and ate it with pineapple chunks. I learned from my past experience that pineapple is helpful with headaches. So pineapple was a friend to me today.
During work, the headache took over. By the time I left, I was a little delirious. Water, water, water. I got home and quickly got dinner prepped and in the oven so we could eat as soon as my husband got home. Chicken breasts with curry cauliflower. I had a little Primal Kitchen Ranch with mine for a plated fat. My husband tried the Primal Kitchen Buffalo Ranch. He said everything was delicious. Apparently, my husband is suffering no withdrawal symptoms. He isn’t as big on caffeine as I am, so he didn’t have to deal with that aspect of it. Lucky him.
After dinner, we settled down to watch a bit of tv. I was already ready for bed, but I love a little down time with my hubby. He looked at me and asked, “What’s for snack?” I explained the no snacking rules. But in all honesty, I have been tracking my macros for so long that I knew I was sitting at about 1,000 calories. Which means I would need to eat something or start tomorrow with a hunger headache. I had a little apple sauce and he had some watermelon.
So far so good on this journey. He is laughing at me about my level of fatigue, and I am giving him the side eye for not having any negative feelings so far. Although he is already counting down.
