Our whole routine was completely thrown off today. Jared decided to take the day off work. This had me up before him and out of the house to work. Today was my scheduled rest day from the gym, but if he was going to go I told him I would go with him when I got home around noon. When I got home, he had mowed the lawn and wasn’t looking too motivated. I ate a little lunch and then we walked Sir Buddy.
Jared wanted to go to the store because we were running very low on proteins. The whole time we knew we were on a time crunch because the Brewers were playing at 4:30 (insert my eye roll here). I knew at this point, we were not making it to the gym.
I would like to take this opportunity to talk about food costs. It is not lost on me that eating healthy is very expensive. For the two of us to eat…I haven’t been brave enough to calculate the cost. And to buy quality products without a bunch of added sugar and preservatives, it costs even more. One thing that Jared and I do is shop multiple stores. This started early on because he has a place he prefers, and I have places I prefer. Now, we know where we can get what cheaper. Another thing we do, is shop the sales. When they have meat marked as “freeze or use today” we stock up. Today we grabbed a couple packs of chicken thighs for super cheap. Last week we were eating beef tenderloin. So I say again, shop the sales and go to different stores.
While Jared watched the Brewers lose, I made dinner. Crispy garlic lemon chicken thighs with roasted cauliflower. So delicious. Honestly, eating this way is not terrible at all. I really do miss cheese though. After dinner, I asked if Jared wanted me to make cupcakes. Of course he did. So I made chocolate cupcakes out of an apple, banana, almond butter, and cocoa powder. Basically they were a chocolate muffin. They were ok, but they would have been amazing with frosting.
For day 16 it was pretty uneventful. I am looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow. Good night!
